Dog Island
Dog Island, a stunning uninhabited gem situated approximately 13 km north-west of Anguilla, spans 207 hectares and is characterized by its unique landscape of low cliffs and sandy beaches. This remote island features three small cays and large ponds nestled within its shores. The central area is dominated by thorny scrub, including prickly pear plants.
Recognized as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International, Dog Island supports a diverse array of seabirds. Over 100,000 pairs of nesting sooty terns thrive here, alongside other species such as red-billed tropicbirds and magnificent frigatebirds. The island's rich biodiversity also includes various reptile species like the Anguilla Bank ameiva and feral goats that roam the terrain.
